During the development of our Excelsior soap base, we submitted to our testers a softer, creamier version of the product that came to be known by its development code, “PP-8.” Known for its slick, protective lather and soft, nourished post-shave feel, PP-8 has been referred to in hushed tones by our testers ever since, spoken of as a sort of “one that got away.” We discarded the formulation during development in an effort to create a product that would last longer and provide better value for our customers, but have continued to receive requests for more than a year that we release some of the soap to the public. Thus was the inspiration for the Soft Heart Series, so named because of the softer, easier-lathering consistency of the PP-8 soap base.
Each Soft Heart release is limited to between 150 and 200 jars of soap and 150 and 200 jars of aftershave balm, and each will be produced only once. Soft Heart products will be available only from the Barrister and Mann website in the United States, but limited quantities of shaving soap and aftershave balm will be available from Top of the Chain and Slickboys UK as well at a later date.
For this release, we're very pleased to announce Soft Heart: Rhapsody. One of the first fragrances designed by Will and Paula as a team, Rhapsody was inspired by the grand fragrance masterpiece Nicolaï New York and by the lovely aroma of pear blossoms that drifts along the thoroughfares surrounding Central Park in Spring. An ode to blossoms of all types, Rhapsody incorporates notes of orange blossom, pear blossom, patcohouli, sandalwood, vanilla, orange, lemon, bay, thyme, and rose into a lovely kiss of jammy goodness that brightens even the coldest of weather. It's less floral than you think and much better than you hope, so don't miss out!

United StatesThe soft hearts shave experience is definitely something that everyone should try. Exceptional lather and shave quality. I will definitely be looking to buy more soft hearts series releases in the future. The scent for me was actually a let down when I first opened the container. I was expecting more fruit melody and less floral bouqeut. However, after shaving with it the scent has grown on me. Slightly more fruit notes come through on the lather so I am glad I gave it a try. Not my favorite scent, but one I'm happy to have in my collection.
