Lavanille Shaving Soap
The vanillin in Lavanille may cause it to discolor animal hair shaving brushes. Use of a dedicated brush or a synthetic-fiber shaving brush is recommended.
Some time ago, Barrister and Mann® had the extraordinary fortune to obtain a sample of the discontinued, leathery perfume base Mousse de Saxe. Armed with only this small sample and historical records of what went into the original, we set out to re-create the famous design by smell alone. After four months of research, formulation, reformulation, and constant refinement, we successfully rebuilt Mousse de Saxe into its original glory. It seemed only fitting that such an achievement should be used to create a soap inspired by some of the greatest masculine fragrances of all time.
We blend our version of Mousse de Saxe with lavender, vanilla, cedar, and elegant musk to create a dark, leathery, elegant soap unlike anything seen for nearly a half century.

The first shaving soap I fell in love with
...And it is still my favorite! The description really drew me in, but I was unsure if I'd actually like a "dark, leathery" vanilla and lavender scent. But it is so complex and beautiful, and I just loved the darkness, it really opened the door for me to start trying other "out there" scents. Of course, the performance is top-notch, you can't expect anything else from B&M, and that's why the quality scent sets this soap apart. The lather is the right amount of cushiony, slick, and provides a great post-shave feel.
Not Your Grandmother's Lavender and Vanilla
When I see the word “Lavanille” – a portmanteau of the words “Lavender” and “Vanilla” – I instantly think, “Grandma.” Well, the only way your grandma would smell like this is if she was the leader of a motorcycle gang, because this is the most aggressive and masculine that lavender and vanilla could be possibly be. Lavanille is obviously a labor of love. B&M has faithfully recreated a masterwork perfume from the fragrance house Parfums Caron, specifically Pour un Homme de Caron. Using this parfum as a base, they build on it with a heady dose of lavender, real vanilla, Virginia cedar oil and Exaltolide musk. There is a lot happening in this soap. Upon opening the tub, I’m immediately struck by how DARK this stuff is – a very dark brown, almost the color of blackstrap molasses. It has a strong lavender and vanilla aroma in the tub, but that is absolutely NOTHING compared to the smell you get when you build it into a lather. Holy moly, this thing is aromatic! As you work it from croap into foam, the smell explodes into the biggest hit of lavender I’ve ever encountered, and the cedar oil smell permeates the room. It’s a HUGE aroma, strength 9 out of 10. Like other B&M soaps I’ve encountered, this does require work. I had to add soap, then water, and whip, whip, whip the chocolate brown foam into shape. (Despite the user-unfriendliness, my hard work was rewarded with a nice foam, which built into a thick lather when worked on my face. As far as performance, it is reasonably slick, and the cushion provided by the thick foam is second to none. It is a little trippy seeing my porcelain white scuttle dripping with coffee-colored remnants, but no matter – it works as intended, and very well, at that.
My favorite scent
I have loved Lavanille since it intoxicated my nose the first time I smelled it. I have gone through one tub, and I'm working on my second right now. The scent is so good that I could use it as a signature scent and be very happy.
I've used Lavinille with several different brushes(all badger) and it loads beautifully. The cushioning is perfect and awesome slip. The fragrance , to me is almost a leather smell, which I love! After a shave, my face feels soft and that will last the entire day!
Lavenille by Barrister & Mann
I love this scent it is unique and intoxicating I also matched up with the Lavanille aftershave for the full experience. Not only is the scent great but the performance is in keeping with the high standards Barrister & Mann is known for.
