John Muir, for whom the famed national park "Muir Woods" is named, was a driven man. He loved nature so much that he crusaded for decades to preserve it, founding the Sierra Club and establishing national parks at Yosemite and the Sequoia National Forest, which inspired the conservation of other natural wonders all over the United States. He was so outspoken and persuasive that no less than Ansel Adams, perhaps the greatest nature photographer of the 20th Century, regarded him as a direct influence and inspiration for his work.
In keeping with Muir's love of the forests, we've attempted to capture the crepuscular gloom of the woods at dusk, all purples and greens and blues. Blackberry seemed a perfect choice to blend with the jammy resin of balsam fir, while oakmoss and vetiver lace the undergrowth, imparting earthy mossiness and wood. The scent of damp air, so common in the Pacific Northwest where Muir made his home, wends its way through the fragrance, leaving a hauntingly gossamer shimmer in its wake. Not so much as photorealistic fragrance as an inspired color impression, suffused with the indigo of the dusky woods, Mûir(e) Wood is a tribute to one of our great forefathers in a strikingly unconventional manner, a memorial to a man who went to live in Nature and only came back to tell us of the wonders he had seen. La mûre may be French for blackberry, but the man himself is the inspiration. His contemplative approach to the world, so reminiscent of our own wet shaving rituals, is best expressed in words to others:

Barrister and Mann Mûir(e) Wood smells amazing, the scents of Muir(e) Wood has become a new favorite for me. Muire(e) Wood starts off with blackberry on top of oakemoss, balsam fir and vetiver, which gives a earthy mossiness and wood smell to it. The end result is an earthy scent with a sweetness that comes together very nice. I can’t get enough of this scent, i will defenitivet order the EDT when it releases.
Absolutely amazing scent!
Early morning in the woods, damp earth, Sun evaporating the dew off the leaves and a stream running through it all. The scent brings it all together and is well balanced, very well done.
Perfectly balanced
Barrister and Mann's Muir(e) Wood Aftershave Splash is one of my favorites for warmer weather post-shave. Scent is of course personal, but this one does a great job of balancing the "damp earth" quality with a lightness that makes it very wearable for me. The only issue is that it takes me away from my Leviathan cream!
Wonderfully composed and complex. A fantastic scent and great post-shave feel. Hopefully the soap will be in stock soon to complete the set.

Scent Strength is perfect
I love the scent. It's rugged and manly, and makes me feel like a lumberjack in the Puget Sound. The aftershave splash is cool and refreshing, and leaves your face feeling fantastic. I have absolutely no complaints.
However, my wife thinks it smells like Grape Soda. It gives her headaches. I can kind of smell it, but it's a deal breaker for her. It's definitely worth getting a sample first so you're not in my shoes (or rugged leather boots)
The aftershave splash, while refreshing is not the same as the shaving soap.
There was some concern over how the initial fragrance would hit but it is light not over powering and the follow on is an easy going forest that stays with you. Muir wood can’t go wrong and Barrister’s is always solid with all other ingredients. So expect a little brace with skin care wrapped in Muir Wood scent. This and Leviathan my two primary soaps and aftershave. Thank you and keep them coming.
Just the right amount of burn to the aftershave, really feels like it’s sealing your skin. The scent, which I’ve written about under the shave cream, is absolutely perfect for someone looking for something different.

The scent description on Muir(e) Wood provided in the copy text is pretty accurate. There's a strong scent of damp earth here with some lightness of wet leaves and moss. The brighter notes in the scent settle quickly and the dark, earthiness lingers for quite a while. It's softens as it lingers but not to soft-like-flowers scent the way you get with Electric Sheep, more soft-like-moss-and-dirt. Against a cold, fall breeze it's going to juxtapose nicely.
